As far as I understand, the copyright doesn't apply to the algorithm but
only the concrete implementation. Therefore the real question is how you
used the original source code, i.e. whether you used any information
beyond the algorithm itself, which can --- in fact --- be found in
several alternative places even on the web.
For example, if you use several subroutines with the same
functionalitiies, or if you (almost) always use the same solutions for
the subproblems even in cases where there would be other natural
alternatives, then the original license should be applied. Otherwise an
acknowledgment to the authors seems to be enough.
